A short Psalm, one of the songs of ascent, regarding brotherly love.
Unity among the people is pleasant, not only to them, but like a fragrant offering to God. In this peace, God pours out blessing, like the oil used to consecrate the priests, and like the refreshing, heavy dew on Mt. Hermon.
As I read this morning, my thoughts went to the many scriptures, particularly in the new testament that speak of peace....and command us to pursue it and strive for it. Blessings are spoken for the peacemakers (Matt.5:9 James 3:18), and curses on the troublemakers.
While I can complain about disunity or strife, how often would I be 'guilty' (positively) of pursuing peace by being a peacemaker(Heb 12:14)? Or am I guilty (negatively) of tearing the house(family or church) down with my own hands (words)? (Proverbs 14:1)
I am aware, more and more, of how much I need the Spirit's leading, conviction, and the grace to do what the Word tells me to do.
