Sin, consequences, and redemption.
"Out of the depths I cry to You......."
Immediately my mind went to cries for deliverance from the enemy.....circumstantial overload. But then verse two makes the problem evident. Sin.
The Psalmist comprehends who God is and so understands his place, or state, before Him: full of sin, depraved, helpless,....needing mercy, forgiveness, and redemption, without which, he cannot stand before God. None could. If God numbered our sins and kept record of them, we would be doomed.
But He does forgive those who recognize their sinful state, need for forgiveness, and inability to rescue themselves. Those who know Him, and thus fear Him.
It is only in God that we can find help for our fallen state.....thus the cry for God to hear his plea.
And thus the state of waiting.
Waiting on the Lord isn't so much about time as it is trust. Trust that He will be faithful to fulfill His promises. That He is true and righteous. Holy. In all that is wrong.....our sin, trials, tribulations, afflictions, He is working for the good of those who love Him.
I love the picture of the night watchman who longs for daylight. He scans the horizon for light, knowing that it will come. It always does.
Yes. We will wait on the Lord's love and mercy with that kind of longing and trust that it will come. It always does.
".....Hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with Him is plentiful redemption."
Thankful today that He doesn't mark my iniquities.
Thankful that He is merciful. And forgiving. He understands my frame.
