This is a royal psalm, in 2 parts.
Verse 1 introduces the first stanza...."remember David, and all his afflictions...." and his intense zeal for finding a place for the dwelling of God and the ark of the covenant. David swore he would not rest until he accomplished this.
Once the place was secured and established, the ark was brought with much trouble to Jerusalem and the permanent place for the tabernacle there. There was much rejoicing in Israel. See I Chron. 13-15.
The second stanza is begun in verse 10: "For Your servant David's sake, do not turn away the face of Your Anointed."
God's covenant is remembered, and He is reminded...of it. He'd promised to always keep David's seed on the throne. The promise came with conditions.....his sons (descendants) must keep the law and be obedient. We see in biblical history that this generally didn't happen....and the kingdom was taken away.
But in Christ......this is completed and fulfilled. He is of the seed of David, but also Emanuel, God with us. In Him is fulfilled the promise of a King forever.
