Beginning a new venture......

This blog is born out of many weeks (years?) of struggle with what many Christians deal with:  spending meaningful time in God's Word on a daily basis.  It is the 'must' of a fruitful Christian life.  It is the air we breathe and the food we eat spiritually speaking.  Yet we bury ourselves in the business of life......good things that can overwhelm all of our time and energy, may earn us a few pats on the back, or awards, or accolades, but, in the end, crowd out the most important thing.....learning at the feet of Jesus.

In an effort to be intentional about daily Bible reading.....and not just reading, but meditating on the Word...I had the idea to begin in the Psalms and read the same Psalm daily, at least twice.  But I know myself well enough to know that the busyness of life would push that to the point of being simply something to crowd into the day and check off my list.  In the end, I wind up feeling guilty, hungry and spiritually impoverished, and am robbed of the joy in the doing.

So,   I came up with the idea to blog daily about what I am reading in an effort to force myself to think about it and apply God's Word to life.  I will not advertise this blog, or try to draw anyone to read it, save the few faithful friends who will hold me accountable.  If you find it or it is shared with you and are encouraged, convicted, or helped in some way, welcome!  I don't care who reads it, as long as it doesn't become about me.....but about learning more of our God.  Your comments are welcome.

Father, help me to progress well on this journey.  Teach me to desire You above all.....to be like Mary, of whom Jesus said, "She has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away..." when she chose to sit at His feet instead of focus on the busyness of life.  Help the Mary in me to be primary, while the Martha quietly works in the background, facilitating time with You.  Teach me from Your Word daily the things that you will teach me.   And help me to be a doer of your Word, not merely a hearer.

Tomorrow:    Psalm One.
